About the 2023 SA Health Aboriginal Health Scholarship
The South Australian Aboriginal Health Scholarship is an initiative of the Department for Health and Wellbeing in partnership with Australian Rotary Health.
Current and prospective students are invited to apply for a scholarship to maintain and complete their studies towards a health qualification at a degree level, in areas such as:
- Medicine
- Registered Nursing
- Midwifery
- Dentistry
- Pathology
- Allied Health
- Health Promotion
Applicants are required to provide confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent from an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander organisation.
Successful applicants will receive a scholarship of up to $5,000 per academic year (for full time study) paid in instalments and adjusted according to actual study load and results. Applications for both full-time and part-time study will be considered.
Scholarship requirements
Scholarship recipients are required to:
#1: comply with all course requirements
imposed by the education institution
#2: provide copies of results and
enrolment to the Department at the
start of each semester
#3:use scholarship funds for specified
purposes only
#4: provide a report outlining the use of
funds at the end of each semesterRecipients are required to notify the
Department if they:
#1: withdraw from the course
#2: fail part of the course
#3: make changes to study load
#4: change any personal contact details
#5: receive any other scholarship
If any of these requirements are not met
the scholarship may be suspended and
recipients may be required to pay back
scholarship funds.
Eligibility
To be eligible, applicants must:
- Identify as being of Aboriginal or
Torres Strait Islander descent and be
accepted as such by the community
in which they live or have lived; and
provide confirmation from an
Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
organisation- Be undertaking or enrolled in an
approved undergraduate or
postgraduate level course, or have
received an offer of acceptance- Be a resident of South Australia for
more than 12 months prior to
submission- Confirmation must be provided from an
Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
Organisation. Statutory Declarations will
not be accepted.
Applicants undertaking a certificate
course or foundation studies towards
entry into a degree level course are not
eligible for this scholarship.
Scholarship applications for both full-time
and part-time study will be considered.
Applicants are required to provide
evidence of their study load.
