2024 California Climate Action Corps Fellows

California Climate Action Corps leverages the power of AmeriCorps to advance climate actions that engage community members, cultivate change, and leave a lasting impact.

The fellowship connects local organizations and agencies with talented, motivated emerging leaders to move the needle on climate change in the community.

California Climate Action Corps Fellows:

  • Serve 1,200 hours over 7.5 months, from February 1 – September 13, 2024.
  • Support Host Partners throughout the state, principally in underserved communities. 
  • Learn real-world volunteer engagement and climate action skills through organizing community climate action projects.
  • Serve with a public agency, tribe, nonprofit, or educational institution committed to engaging their community in climate action.
  • Focus on climate action around urban greening, organic waste and edible food recovery, and wildfire resiliency.
  • Are part of a community and statewide force of emerging leaders.

California Climate Action Corps Fellows receive:

  • Professional development opportunities, including training and climate-related certifications to learn real-world climate action and community engagement skills.
  • Opportunity to serve with a public agency, tribe, nonprofit, or educational institution committed to engaging their community in taking action on climate change where you will be provided support for the implementation of your service projects.
  • Opportunity to be part of this unique program, community, and statewide force of emerging leaders.

Benefits

  • Up to $23,294 Living Allowance (before taxes) spread evenly over 7.5 months.
  • Forbearance on existing qualifying student loans and payment of interest accrued during service.
  • Health Insurance.
  • Childcare assistance for qualifying Fellows, paid to an eligible provider of their choice.
  • SNAP (Food Stamps) – for those eligible.

Qualifications

    • Be a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident of the United States*
    • Ability to pass FBI, CA Department of Justice, out-of-state (if applicable), and National Sex Offender Public Registry background checks prior to service
  • California Climate Action Corps Requirements
    • At least 18 years of age.
    • Live in California
    • Associates degree or above AND/OR relevant experience (for 11-month full-time term only).
    • Commitment to the full term of service.
    • Capability to work in a professional office or field setting. 
    • Strong verbal and written communication and teamwork skills
  • Strongly Preferred
    • Past service experience (e.g., volunteering, community service, etc.)
    • Experience with, or training in, volunteer engagement, outreach, facilitation and/or education.
    • Being local to the community where you will serve

*Currently, we are unable to accept applicants with student visas (such as F1 or F2 student visas, J1 or J2 exchange visitor visas, G series visas, etc.) or those with Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status.
