Operator Trainee – Apply Now

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Ensure safe work practices and procedures are followed
  • Assume responsibility for personal safety and the safety of others
  • Manual operations that include connecting and disconnecting cargo hoses and load arms on railcars, tank trucks, ships and barges.  Manual transfer of chemicals from bags and drums
  • Operation of manual and automatic valves, meters, pumps, and transfer systems to handle product movement between tanks and process units
  • Operation of batch and continuous process units utilizing a wide range of control systems and equipment that includes centrifuges, solids transfer systems, refrigeration units, mixers, heat exchangers, pumps, vacuum systems and filters
  • Operation of our utility systems that include power generation by gas fired turbines, boilers, air compressors, hot oil units, incinerator furnaces, firewater and cooling water systems, boiler feedwater treatment and effluent water treatment systems
  • Prepare equipment for maintenance activities and handle minor maintenance of their facilities
  • Perform housekeeping duties to maintain a clean work environment and clean equipment such as filters, tanks, exchangers, and other various equipment
  • This position requires driving on a routine basis
  • Requires frequent and extended time outdoors in all climates and in proper personal protective equipment
  • Safety Sensitive Position.  Pre-employment drug screen

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Two or more years of manufacturing or Industrial related work experience
  • Military experience may be accepted in lieu of required work experience
  • Completion of a Process or Industrial Technology program is preferred
  • Must be able to work a rotating 12-hour shift, overtime as required and on-call
  • Able to troubleshoot complex systems and apply good problem-solving skills to develop recommendations/solutions.  Able to remove roadblocks and consider alternative approaches to arrive at workable solutions
  • Must be able to work independently, take initiative, act on opportunities, and to plan and organize own work
  • Able to build rapport and establish positive working relationships within a group and with other departments
  • Identify opportunities to increase efficiency, improve safety of operations, and reduce costs
  • Efficiently and effectively takes actions to meet business needs. Responds and follows up on requests quickly and efficiently. Uses feedback to monitor and address concerns
  • Able to communicate critical information timely, accurately, and succinctly
  • Basic knowledge in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and an aptitude for learning new applications.
  • Ability and willingness to work day and night shift work, weekends, overtime, on-call, and holidays based on assigned work schedule.
  • Must be comfortable working at heights.
  • Ability to successfully complete a post-offer/pre-placement drug and alcohol screening, background check, physical, functional capacity examination, as well as pre-placement verification of the information and qualifications provided during the selection process.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License.
  • Must have a valid TWIC card.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience as a Production Operator in a refinery, chemical plant, or terminal
  • Displays an understanding of chemical plant / refinery policies and procedures
  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with a diverse team of coworkers, contractors, and internal and external customers

If selected to participate in the Chevron IAB on-line test, you will be required to take the following battery of tests: 

Industrial Information Test
Measures the ability to read, understand, and use information in graphs, charts, tables, and written passages to solve problems
Mechanical Aptitude Assessment
Measures the ability to apply general mechanical principles to understand and solve problem situations
Workplace Attitude and Behavior Inventory
Measures personal characteristics important to success in the job applied for

Chevron’s tests are focused on industrial aptitudes. However, Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test preparation guides may be helpful in preparation for these tests. Candidates should focus on mechanical aptitude, reading comprehension, understanding information in tables and graphs, and understanding industrial math
