Job Description for Fisheries Internship Summer 2023

Key activities include but are not limited to:

  • Developing internal fisheries data warehouse relative to fishing activity (commercial and recreational) in BOEM lease area OCS-0538.
  •  Compiling documentation on existing offshore wind industry fisheries compensation and mitigation plans. Researching best practices from European projects on fisheries compensation, mitigation, and engagement. Compiling marine industry data on fishing vessel casualties related to offshore wind incidents.
  • Assist with research and evaluation of fisheries research programs.
  • Assist with research and evaluation of data sharing methods, tools, and best practices.
  • Assisting in coordination of public outreach meetings and information sessions, prepping summary documents, tracking attendees, and recording meeting minutes.
  • Prepping and developing outreach materials, project status reports on fisheries engagement, and public statements and comment letters.
  • Reviewing newly passed legislation and guidance provided by BOEM and NOAA Fisheries focused on fisheries mitigation, compensation, and engagement.

Candidate profile

  • Current senior, recent graduate and/or first year of Master’s program, in good standing with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Preferred Degree Plan in, Marine Policy, Environmental Policy, Environmental Science, Marine Science, Marine Biology, Fisheries Science, or Biology.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. 
  • Effective problem solving, analytical skills, and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to work independently, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and complete projects in a timely manner.
  • Knowledge in software programs Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, ARCGIS(preferred not required).
  • Ability to work in office May 2023 to August 2023
