About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for you to join the University of Oxford as an Apprentice Finance & Accounting Technician in the Chemistry department
You will work as an Apprentice Finance and Accounting Technician. Gaining skills and experience both in the workplace, and through the completion of a course of study. This is a general Finance role and you will have the opportunity to learn how to complete a wide range of Finance administration tasks, from paying invoices to supporting financial yearend adjustments. You will be welcomed into a team of 12 finance professionals who are supportive of both personal and professional development.
About the apprenticeship
You will complete a Level 3 Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship which is within the Accounts and Finance sector and complete a blended learning Level 2 AAT programme as the foundation part of the programme between January 2023 and July 2023. Upon completion of the Level 2 AAT it would then enable you to join the September 2023 Level 3 AAT on a “normal” day release programme, rather than the blended offer, through to completion of the apprenticeship. As part of the apprenticeship, you will gain Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) Professional Accounting qualifications at both Levels 2 and 3.
Following successful completion of the apprenticeship, there would be further scope for progression to complete AAT Level 4.
For this apprenticeship, you will work at the Chemistry department in the Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory. As part of your apprenticeship, you will be required to attend Abingdon & Witney College. During your apprenticeship, you will need to attend either Abingdon or Witney campus for 1 day a week.
In total, it will take 2 years to complete all elements of the apprenticeship, with support from the Department, University, and College throughout.

About you
You will be passionate about starting your career in accounts and finance and excited about the opportunity of becoming an apprentice at the University of Oxford. You may be starting your career or you may be looking for a career change.
To complete the level 3 apprenticeship you will need to evidence passes at 9-4 or A*-C in GCSE Maths and English. A-Levels of equivalent would be preferred. If you did not achieve these grades, do not let that put you off from applying as you can study Functional Skills as part of the apprenticeship giving you the equivalent qualifications needed.
To help check that you have the potential to achieve these, Abingdon & Witney College will ask you to complete a short initial assessment during the application process. There are also government residency requirements for Apprenticeship funding which the Training Provider will be able to advise on.
