South Carolina visual artists are invited to submit original, two-dimensional artwork to the 2023 North Charleston Arts Fest Poster Design Competition. The winning piece will become the official poster design of the 2023 North Charleston Arts Fest, taking place May 3-7, and will be featured on all promotional materials and merchandise, including posters, billboards, print and digital advertisements, television commercials, program booklets, apparel, online, and more.
The winning artist will receive a $500 purchase award and a solo exhibition at Park Circle Gallery in May 2023. In addition, the winning piece will become part of the City of North Charleston’s Public Art Collection, which is displayed throughout City Hall.
There is NO entry fee to participate. The competition is open to SC residents ages 18 and older. Categories of work accepted are: acrylic, oil, drawing, pastel, watercolor, and 2-D mixed media.
The North Charleston Arts Fest is one of the most comprehensive arts festivals in the state of South Carolina, drawing thousands of residents and visitors annually to participate in a fabulous, multidiscipline 5-day celebration. The festival is packed with an array of free and ticketed events including concerts, theatre productions, children’s programs, art workshops, exhibitions, and more.

- PDC: Terms & RegulationsThe winning artist will receive recognition as the official winner of the 2023 North Charleston Arts Fest Poster Design Competition. The artwork image will be reproduced on posters, billboards, program booklets, t-shirts, postcards, and all of the event’s digital and print promotional materials. The winning artist will receive 50 booklets, 15 posters, 12 t-shirts, and 100 postcards bearing the image.
- By submission of entries, the artist accepts all conditions set forth in this prospectus.
- • Applicant must be a SC resident, age 18 and up.
- • Entries must be original, two-dimensional works completed in the last two years. Original work is the artist’s sole creation and is not, in whole or part, a copy, digital image, or print of any other person’s work and has not been created with any other assistance.
- • Entries must be ready for exhibition. Maximum size of entries is 36”x36” (including frame). Work must be framed or gallery wrapped canvas and must be wired for hanging. No glass clip frames or hanging brackets.
- • Vertically oriented compositions are strongly encouraged, as they convert best to our final poster, booklet, and t-shirt layouts.
- • Do not include “North Charleston Arts Fest” and/or festival dates on the artwork.
- • Sponsor reserves the right to reject any entry that does not meet the terms and regulations.
- • Sponsor reserves the right to use images of work and/or exhibition for publicity.
- • If selected, the winning artwork will become part of the City’s permanent Public Art Collection and the City will have rights to reproduce the image for publicity on various items and advertisements.
- • All pieces that are mixed media must list all materials used.

- What makes your submission(s) a good fit to represent the North Charleston Arts Fest?
- If selected, artist must be able to mount a month-long solo exhibition at Park Circle Gallery, which will feature the winning design. Other works in the exhibition must be comporable in style and quality to that of the winning design.Park Circle Gallery is located at 4820 Jenkins Avenue in the bustling Park Circle neighborhood of North Charleston. The winning artist’s exhibition will be displayed throughout May 2023.
